Directly under the Constitution, the supreme law of Canada, the Charter overrides the others in terms of law and freedoms, and all laws of the country must comply. It describes the rights and fundamental freedoms which are due to all Canadians: freedom of religion and expression, democratic rights, including voting rights, and freedom of movement and settlement, plus legal guarantees for individuals.
