It is time to go back to school. That means excitement and jitters. Hopes are high that this will be the best year yet. But studies show that kids who suffer from bullying and discrimination at school are more prone to dropping out, and if they stay in school they do not thrive. There is also a direct link between bullying and depression among students, which can also have grave consequences.

Here are some general statistics: studies indicate that approximately 1 in 5 school children is bullied in Canada. Bullying is at its most severe between the ages of 12-14, that is Secondary 1 and 2.

We go into dozens of schools every year leading interactive workshops on how to counter bullying and discrimination with 26,000 Québec students.

The Tolerance Foundation (soon to be known as Ensemble for the respect of diversity) has a unique reach and is widely known and respected among educators and students. It is a not for profit organization that has existed since 1995. We focus on the importance of the witnesses and on the teaching of empathy.
